Dan Vidican
FRENCH HORN MAKER
Dan was born in Cluj, Romania.
He started playing horn at the age of 12 and won his first professional position with the Transilvania Philharmonic at the age of 19 where he played and toured extensively for 6 years before moving to Chicago. He received a master of music degree in French horn performance from DePaul University and played in the Chicago Civic Orchestra. In 2006 he moved down south and performed with the Arkansas and Memphis Symphonies.
Lukas Horns started in the spring of 2014 when Dan decided to see if he could build a horn for himself to his exact specifications. He had been working on Yamaha conversions, installing better leadpipes, replacing entire bell sections, customizing flares, replacing braces, cutting bells, and making other modifications and improvements since 2013. He felt he had accumulated enough experience to attempt building a horn. One thing led to another and now he has created Lukas Horns!
Dan’s horns are played in major symphony orchestras across the country: Chicago, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, Memphis, and Colorado…. and if you are a lover of the Star Wars trilogies… you have heard his instruments there as well! Watch this pivotal scene—the beautiful horn solo that comes in at the 1:45 mark—that is played on a Lukas horn!!!
